Hello Autumn

Its coming near the end of Augutst- a month that symbolizes the energy of completion, past healing and a brighter future. It's a good time to reflect on our past projects and designs and figure out methods to create new and better products and services.

Its time to say good by to our Summer Time and welcome Autumn. Here is to more exciting things this season! We are very excited to soon showcase we have had in store for a long time.

Here is a cookie recipe to end your Beautiful Summer:

INGREDIENTS

• 2 3/4 cups (358g) all-purpose flour
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 cup (224g) unsalted butter, room temperature
• 1 cup + 2 tbsp (233g) granulated sugar
• 2 tbsp (28g) light brown sugar
• 1 large egg
• 2 tsp vanilla extract

• 1/4 cup sugar (additional for rolling)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. Set aside.
2. Combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a medium sized bowl and set aside.
3. Cream the butter and sugars together in a large mixer bowl on medium speed until light in color and fluffy. You should be able to see the change in color happen and know it’s ready.
4. Add the egg and mix until well combined.
5. Add the vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
6. Add the dry ingredients and mix until the dough is well combined. It will be thick and shouldn’t be sticky. Do not over mix. Once it’s well combined, use a rubber spatula to help it come together to form a more cohesive ball.
7. Create 1 1/2 tablespoon sized balls of cookie dough. Gently roll into a ball, then roll each ball in the additional sugar to coat. Set the balls on the baking sheet.
8. Bake cookies for 7-8 minutes. The cookies will spread and the centers will look soft, but should look done. Remove just before the edges begin to turn golden. Don’t over bake. The cookies will be a little puffy when you take them out of the oven but will fall a bit as they cool.
9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on baking sheets for 4-5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Being based in Bali, often called the 'Island of the Gods' makes us realise how pure and holy this place is. The culture around the island is truly wonderful. Consisting largely of Hinduism, every corner you turn you might see a temple or a place of worshipping for the various gods. Often, there may be ceremonies commemorating different events in time whether that is the full moon, Kuningan or a
wedding. 

Olga is a representation of the holiness of Bali. The characteristics and the vibrant colours this island gives us every single day which we should never take for granted. It is often seen as just a destination for vacation, but to us it is much more than that. 
It offers us a space of serenity and focus for our mind and body.

The lotus flower is one of if not the most significant flower in the world. In Eastern cultures they are a representation of purity, enlightenment and self-regeneration. 

 

Lotuses bloom in swampy waters and it reminds us that beautiful things can bloom in murky circumstances. It puts negative situations into a new perspective in a way that we can be hopeful that we will come out the other side. 

 

The past year has been a struggle for us all and most of us have been under murky waters. It was easy to lose the hope that we once had at the beginning of this pandemic. But just like the Lotus, we can bloom into new beginnings. 

 

We will bloom and that is the hope that we need to hold onto, for there is no growth without struggle. 

THE LOCAL MARKET ID EXHIBITION

This week we are happy to announce that we will have a stand at the Local Market ID in Komunal 88. The exhibition will be from 10am-6pm Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th .

This is a great way for those in Jakarta who want to check out our products and have a first hand experience with Tan Living. Do not hesitate to come by and ask us any questions about what we are selling. Our goal is to leave our customers with a satisfaction that will make them come back
for more. 

We will be at stand 1, it is positioned at Room 'THE' right next to the cashier.

Only 2 weeks away, the Holy Month of Ramadan is coming in faster than you know it. It’s time to set our alarms for Suhoor and open our ears to hear the beautiful Athan signifying the start of our fast. The most exciting part is when the sun starts lowering on the horizon. It’s time to prepare for Iftar.

 

Cooking the food is one thing, setting the table is another. Setting up the table up for Iftar with and for the family resonates on another level. Dressing the table first with a tablecloth and on top of that a complementary table runner. Then comes the placemats to complete the table’s “outfit”. Next comes the food and the drinks, waiting to be devoured. 

 

Counting down the minutes and seconds as the temptations grow, stories are shared between one another to distract the temptation, creating new memories. 

 

And at last the Athan sounds. It’s time to eat!

Here we go with the launch of our new products. A combination of greenery and textures of our beautiful soils. This is a collection of items created with handcrafting techniques which have been passed on for centuries. The reason why we love these specific ways instead of using more modern technologies is to give our products more of a human touch and a sentiment of comfort. Just like we used to watch our grandmothers knitting or our mothers cooking. These are the memories which will forever be embedded inside our heads. With our designs, this is the exact purpose we are doing this. Creating designs which will forever be in your homes, which you will admire for the rest of your lives. 

With Earthly colors it is really quite simple to make you feel comfortable. As, usually the tones are less vibrant than usual which will not be too rough on your eyes. Choose a brighter part of your house to put your items, as this will create a contrast in the room. In addition, this may make you feel as if you were out in the wilderness chasing those stars at night or listening to the sound of birds chirping in the morning. Whatever you do, it is almost impossible to go wrong with these colors. 

What we have learnt from 2020

2020 was very harsh for everyone but also taught us a good lesson of how important our planet is. It is that the Earth is taking it's time to heal and as we all could see, the pollution around the world has reduced since the pandemic started. We all missed to be able to go out freely, without mask and fear of getting infected. But now how wonderful it would be that once the pandemic is over we will walk and inhale a clear air.

Knowing how important and to show our appreciation to our Mother Earth, we decided on this theme for our 2021 collection using earthy shades of our soil, greenery of our flora and even going down to the depth of the sea as well as the colour of the blue sky. It is a gentle reminder for all of us to always love nature.
We are excited to start this year fresh, and hope that it is going to be better for all of us.
