This Ramadan, Unlock the Gift You Give Yourself
As the crescent moon is sighted and the holy month of Ramadan begins, we enter a season of profound blessings. It is a time for fasting, prayer, and deep reflection. We often focus on seeking forgiveness from a higher power, but this Ramadan, let us also turn the mirror inward.
There is a beautiful saying that resonates deeply with the spirit of this month: "Forgiveness is a gift you give yourself."
Often, we carry the heavy burden of past hurts. We replay old arguments in our minds, cling to grudges, and allow the actions of others to hold us hostage. We mistakenly believe that holding onto this anger is a form of control or justice. In reality, it is a prison of our own making.
Ramadan is a sacred opportunity to unlock that prison door.
Fasting teaches us patience. Prayer cleanses our hearts. Charity purifies our wealth. But forgiveness? Forgiveness liberates our souls.
When you forgive someone this month, you are not saying what they did was acceptable. You are simply deciding that you will no longer carry the weight of their mistake on your shoulders. You are choosing your own peace over your pain. You are reclaiming the space in your heart that was occupied by resentment and filling it with the light of serenity.
Ramadan is both sacred and social—a time for seeking forgiveness and celebrating together. In Jakarta, this duality comes alive: days are devoted to prayer and reflection, while nights turn into joyful gatherings and shared meals.
From communal mosque tables to bustling takjil markets, the city shows that Ramadan is not about mourning the fast but celebrating faith as a community. It is a season when the soul is renewed through devotion and the body nourished through meals made meaningful by togetherness—a month of mercy shared in both prayer and feast.
Ramadan Mubarak. May this holy month bring you closer to peace, both with others and within yourself.
